Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia reportedly rejected the opportunity to repeat Marcus Rashford's decision to remain in the Premier League ahead of his switch to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.

On Sunday it was confirmed that Rashford would be leaving United to join Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the campaign. An option to buy the winger permanently is believed to be inserted into the deal which has been described as a positive move for the England international.

Dutch outlet Voetbal Verslaafd understands that Malacia had the same opportunity to remain in the English top flight. However, his proposed move would have been to Villa's West Midlands rivals and relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Malacia chose not to pursue that deal and instead chose to join PSV Eindhoven who currently sit top of the Eredivisie. While the return to the Netherlands makes sense for the defender, it is believed to have not gone down well in Rotterdam - the home of Feyenoord.

United signed Malacia from Feyenoord in 2022 and there would have been a desire to see the full-back return to the Netherlands with them if he was to come home. However, joining PSV is thought to have upset supporters, considering the rivalry between the two clubs.

To intensify matters further, PSV and Feyenoord meet on Wednesday evening in the 'De Kraker' derby in the Dutch Cup. 'De Kraker' roughly translates to 'The Cracker' in English and should be a fiery occasion with a spot in the semi-finals up for grabs.

Having joined his new club late last night, Malacia may not be available to participate in the clash.
